Aira Residence, Damansara Heights

Selangor Properties Sdn. Bhd. was building a team to work closely with internationally-acclaimed Dutch designer Piet Boon for their Aira Residence Showroom at Damansara Heights. As this was a high-budget project with high expectations, the teams involved to bring his vision to fruition were specially selected from the best in their industries. After recognising Curtain Library by Crystalace’s  expertise in soft furnishings from previous projects, they decided to engage with us to provide windows and blinds of the highest quality with top-notch materials.

For this particular showroom, we supplied blinds and curtains for their wet and dry kitchens, dining room, living room, maid’s room, concept kids and teenager rooms, and master bedroom. As Piet Boon was going for a minimal maximalist, “East meets West” look with emphasis on natural light, he tasked us to handcraft double-layer roman blinds, paired with single pleated curtains. More specifically, the product specifications for this project was to have double layer sheer roman blinds and single pleated curtains at 150% fullness, with 5-inch tape headers, both stitched in the Dutch double stitching method.

As both the designer and our client were looking for perfection, this project was not without its challenges. For one, our tailors had to upgrade our sewing techniques to match the Dutch standard of curtain tailoring. The Dutch standard requires stitches to be made on both the front and back of the curtains. To give the curtains and blinds a seamless finish, two layers of sheer fabric have to be perfectly aligned as the tailor sews them together. This was quite a task as the sheer fabric is a thin material that shifts in position during production. Needless to say, this was a complex job- but our expert tailors did not disappoint.

The resulting look from this project allowed for an earthy and modern-Malaysian look that closely followed Piet Boon’s minimalist vision. Our blinds filtered natural light into a soft warm glow into each room, while our curtains gave neat and soft waves to the overall window treatment. Together, they provided a calming and soothing background without drawing too much attention.

We consider this project to have set a new benchmark in the type of quality Curtain Library’s custom-made curtains and blinds ought to achieve. With an introduction of the Dutch way of tailoring and the designer’s art direction, this project allowed us to further enhance our craftsmanship
